At NYRI, our mission is simple. Create beautiful, high quality and eco-friendly activewear pieces that represent everyone.

As a Women-Of-Colour owned business, we understand that no two people are the same and recognise the importance of each customers' very unique needs.

It is our goal to represent as many people as possible through activewear, with a key focus of involving real life customers in our design making process.

NYRI represents not only how you look, but most importantly, how you think.

OUR STORY

One random afternoon in 2019 at a gym in Salzburg, Austria...

Woman 1: Sprechen Sie Englisch? ('Do you speak English?' In German)

Woman 2: Ja (Yes)

Woman 3: I love your activewear, where is it from?...

And with that, the most special friendship was formed, one that heavily revolved around the love for activewear.

NYRI Active is a brand that was built out of the friendship between Parita and Naheed (Us!). Two Women of Colour living in Austria at the time, both relating deeply with each other's experience living abroad on their own.

Our friendship continued to grow through pandemic, during which we were living on opposite sides of the world. Our Facetime discussions would often revolve around how much we loved high quality activewear, but struggled to find a brand that we fully resonated with.

We wanted to find a brand that made sassy yet functional clothes, while also properly represented people of colour. A brand that was environmentally conscious but didn't compromise on style or quality.

After searching for a long time, we realised that brand didn't seem to exist. So we decided that we would become that brand and with that, the idea of NYRI was born.

NYRI celebrates our unique friendship. A consistency that never wavered as both of us go through different stages of our lives.

Parita is a medical doctor pursuing a career in dermatology and lasers in Boston, USA during the day, and working on building NYRI at night.

Naheed lives in Sydney, Australia and is a Project Manager by day and full-time mum to a beautiful baby girl at all other times, working on NYRI in between all the breastfeeds and daytime naps.

We wish to extend this special friendship to you and create a community where people of all colours, backgrounds, shapes and sizes feel heard, seen and cherished.

Our Mission

Why representation matters so much to us?

Both of NYRI's founders come from very different ethnic backgrounds. This means we understand how it feels to be seen and heard, especially in the activewear industry. Each of our collections are centered around representation and you can see this in the way we name our pieces after ethnic names, the colors we choose to complement all skin tones and the style and cut of our fabrics. Our goal is to forever include all people, regardless of nationality, size, religion or sexual orientation.

NYRI is proud to work with incredible suppliers who not only bring our vision to life, but prioritize fair working conditions for all their employees. We are so grateful to work alongside such diligent and kind people who also recognize the importance of safe work practices in the fashion industry and strive to minimize our environmental impact while promoting social responsibility.

Our environmental principles

We recognize the impact the clothing industry has on our beautiful environment and how important this is to our customers. We are a small business with big goals and our ultimate mission is to become a fully sustainable brand. We're not there yet but we are working towards this goal and as a start, we are committed to releasing extremely limited collections to minimise waste. We promise that we will forever invest in reducing our impact on the planet and be completely transparent with you every step of the way.

Material Sourcing

We prioritize the use of eco-friendly materials in all of our pieces, as well as non-toxic dyes in our manufacturing processes to minimize the environmental impact of our products.

Durability & Quality

We design our products to be long-lasting and of high quality, ensuring they can withstand regular use. This approach promotes sustainable consumption by reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Minimal Packaging

We strive to minimize packaging waste by only using biodegradable materials for our product packaging, which naturally disintegrate and decomposes over time.
